What is Telecare?

Telecare is the name given to the range of sensors which link with the traditional community or lifeline alarms. Full details of the Telecare equipment offered are given on the following pages together with their uses and the risks that they manage, but they range from the basic pendant to smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for safety and bed and falls sensors for those with mobility difficulties. The sensors are designed to assist people of all ages to live more independently by monitoring their safety around the home and alerting a 24 hour care centre should a potential emergency occur.

How Does Telecare Work?

Most importantly it is very easy to use. You will be provided with a basic package of a Telecare unit and pendant button, and for some additional sensors will also be installed to enhance their personal wellbeing and safety.  The Telecare unit is connected via your home telephone line to a care centre 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. When you press the pendant button, or one of the sensors is activated, the unit automatically dials the care centre, and one of the fully trained operators will arrange the most appropriate assistance. Once the call connects to the care centre, they know you need assistance, and will get help to you even if they can’t communicate with you via the Telecare alarm. In an emergency they will remain in contact with you until they are satisfied that help is with you and they are no longer needed.
